We made a model of a wetland, desert, and ocean from our design sheets last week. Our goal was to determine which habitat our native plant would grow best in. We also continue our unit on comparing sets of objects as equal or unequal and showing teen numbers.
Groups worked together to plant their plants in each habitat and complete their science journals.
After 8 days, students observed how their plants fared. Check out Fernando's reaction to his desert plant habitat!
Ocean vs wetland
Ah, a beautiful wetland!
After Science Lab, the students helped me write the morning message.
We had a hand washing class provided by Ms. Barnett. She taught the kids about germs and proper hand washing.
In these next few shots, my students show off their math learning. We continue to layer several concepts, working in a cycle to review, learn, review, until eventually students build a solid foundation to prepare for 1st Grade.
We read the teen number, show it with a number flash (using our hands), build it with unifex cubes (making sure to show a tower of 10 and ones), then we record with a picture drawing and equation.
The finished product seems so easy but it requires many, many steps! Fernando has it!! I'm very proud of his growth!
