Students completed a mystery box activity where they used their senses to try and figure out the mystery item in their box.
Students had to describe their object. Once they saw what it was they had to point to the wetland picture to show where they thought the animal/plant likely lived.
Here Mrs. Madanski has students guess what this object is. It's a tail from a White Tailed Deer common to Maumee Bay.
Here are a set of antlers.
After a field visit and a video students where able to complete the next activity. They determined what elements where needed for an area to be a wetland. They recorded their ideas on their Science sheet. The next step is to build a model wetland using the materials they chose.
Each group will get a fern to plant in a model wetland. Groups made a claim as to whether their fern will survive in the wetland they designed.
Back in our classroom we completed the monthly weather data graph for April and continued with progress monitoring on reading skills.
I had to add a couple pictures of these ladies. They decided that our housekeeping center was too messy and we had items where they did not belong. They organized it all by themselves!
These last few pictures are of a science center I created to teach about properties of matter. After a few lessons on matter, students are able to sort through a bin and find materials made of wood, plastic, metal, or cloth. After they sort they need to explain their thinking.
Some materials have more than one property. Scientific arguments are appreciated and accepted!
