I have lots of pics this week! We had our Christmas Musical, practiced a lock down drill and celebrated another birthday. All this while still trying to get some teaching done during the crazy, exciting the week of Christmas Break!! Phew, we made it.
Students use this chart for phonics, phonemic awareness goal setting. Basically they all have a running person. Their person wants to get to green. They understand that green means "I got it" yellow means "I need some help" and red means " I don't understand" Kids can move up or down but the goal is to move toward and stay on green to be readers for 1st grade.

This week we did some Top Secret work! We spend a lot of time creating the perfect holiday gifts for parents. We also had Junior Achievement volunteers come to Robinson and teach lessons to our students Thursday morning! Students have been learning how to solve situational story problems (addition and subtraction). I am moving them to creating their own story problem. It's a long process but we will get there! This week's blog focuses on Math and Math/Science integration. We have had several new students join our class over the past 5 weeks. We are now up to 16! As a result, it's been necessary to spend time reviewing class/hallway procedures to make sure all the new students know my expectations. Please make sure to keep reading the decodable books every night and return the homework folder daily. I don't send much homework but it is meaningful. Students discovered a problem with our data. We recorded 2 snowy days on our weather chart but had no place to record this data on their weather graph. After discussing several possible solutions, students agreed to write in snowy days under rainy. Each of our 3 weather icons have 2 ten frames (20 spaces). Since rainy only used 2 days the students agreed that snowy days could share the 2nd ten frame. Way to go little Scientists!
