For math, we continue to use comparison towers and use math vocabulary such as " greater" and "less." Most students can now say AND prove "5 is greater than 4" and "4 is less than 5." We also began partners of 5 activities. Students will have many opportunities to discover and show all the ways to make 5. I'll make sure to post some pictures of math time for the next blog.
This week we added "the" to our sight word list. Using our 2 previously learned words, students practiced reading and writing this sentence all week: I like the ___. We also had that sentence structure for our decodable book. I listened to all students read on Friday and wrote notes on the books for parents. I'm looking for students to point to each word while reading, turn the pages independently, and know what the picture clue is to finish the sentence. This week's blog is dedicated to Mrs. Madanski's STEM lab and her successful STEAM Night. I am so impressed with all she does for our K-8 students. As I walked around and looked at student work I felt a wonderful sense of pride in our Robinson students. The quality of student work comes from the excitement she creates in learning. It was such a treat to enjoy the wide range of fun, engaging activities she offers. Kudos! This was our last week in STEM lab for a while. Mrs. Madanski will now work with each grade band for scheduled periods of time. K-2 will go back to the STEM Lab for daily lessons once again in April-May. This week I added 'Must Do's' for Math Centers. Students have an activity they must complete before moving on to the math tubs. All activities are focused to cover our learning objectives for the unit. I also included shots of the kids having fun and free time. All work and no play leads to a dull day! ![]() Kymiah and Sherry are working on a open art based project using 10 black dots. This was a fun and creative activity to go along with Mrs. Jones lesson. Students worked on Kindergarten skills such as following directions, coloring, cutting and using glue appropriately. For some students, it was quite a challenge! It took us one day to color and a second day to design, cut and paste. I will post the finished pieces next week!
It looks like I need to upgrade to post video! So for now I posted a video of Brooklin and Laila reading Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? on my YouTube page. It is adorable! Go to
Students have been learning classroom/school procedures. They can move from center to center pretty well and most know to stay seated and quiet when I have a phone call, parent or staff member come to the door. We began the reading series and students had a brief introduction to the letters Aa, Bb, Cc, and Dd. In 2 weeks we will begin focused letter/letter sound instruction with only one letter per week. In Math we counted sets up to 10 using Anno's Counting Book. Students had to show sets of 2 and 3 using fingers, math tools, and drawings. In Social Studies we learned the importance of having rules. We created our own class rules. They are: 1. Listen to who is talking. 2. Be Kind to others 3. Follow directions the first time. 4. Raise your hand and wait to be called on In Science we went to Mrs. Madanski's STEM lab to continue caterpillar observations. Welcome to my Kindergarten Blog! What a fun week this has been! We practiced our routines for lining up, getting supplies, and working in stations to name just a few! Our class has done a great job and already earned a few compliments for our compliment chart. I'm posting pics of some of work we have done this week. Make sure to check in at least once a week to see what we're up to. |
