Students are observing monarch caterpillar eggs in this slideshow. They will observe these eggs throughout the entire butterfly lifecycle. As an official Monarch Tagging Station, we will release the tagged monarch butterflies at the end of Sept. They will then begin their migration to Mexico at the end of Sept. We will have a huge school wide, family event after school for the release.
Here are photos of a few free choice centers. We have 9 to choose from on a daily basis. Students are learning how to share, stay in their center until time to switch, practicing clean up routines, and learning how to stop, look and listen when they hear my chime bell. We've added our Hopes and Dreams for this school year to our wall! Plus we are learning how to greet each other and say Good Morning during our daily morning meeting. The last photo shows one way we use technology to help with class work. I projected our activity to the whiteboard using a document camera. Makes life so much easier when everyone can see what we're working on. We began math tubs this week. Students had time to free explore and work with a different partner every day. Right now our goal is to work cooperatively in Math Stations and follow proper procedures for center work. I introduced our class pet this week! This is a male beta fish. The students watched me clean the rocks and helped me set up the tank. We patiently waited a whole school day before we added him to his new tank. The children voted on his new name. Welcome Chris!! I think he's a happy little guy with so many loving faces to smile at him every day. In this activity, I assessed students' knowledge of colors, shapes, ability to follow directions as well as cut and paste. We spent all week doing activities around The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. This is a Venn Diagram comparing the character Chester and his school to our students at Robinson Elementary. We have a wonderful STEM lab at Robinson. Mrs. Madanski is our STEM lab teacher and does some amazing activities with the students. I will showcase a lot of what we do in STEM lab on this blog. The activities and lessons for STEM lab are created and instructed by Mrs. Madanski. I also teach science in my classroom and will highlight all of our exciting learning as well, but I really want to make sure to give her credit where it is due!!

Lola is my baby. She is 6 years old going into 1st grade this year. The picture above is a bit old so I've added a new collage below. I think it's time for a new family portrait!
